In another stunning blow to civilization as we know it, the Los Angeles city council is considering a proposal to make a local trailer park a historical monument.

The trailer park in question, the Monterey Trailer Park, dates back to the early 1920s. At that time it was an auto camp where car travelers could find temporary lodging in the landscaped campsites and cabins. The trailer park is home to about thirty people living in twenty trailers some dating back to the 1950s.

The Cultural Heritage Commission as well as the Los Angeles Conservancy backs the proposal. They contend that the trailer park deserves the monument status because of its place in the history of the great American road trip.

I imagine if the proposal is passed, the truckers daughter and her family will plan a pilgrimage at their earliest convenience.
