Monday, Monday, Monday

What started out as a fairly normal Monday, quickly degenerated into a Monday with hellish possibilities. Our supervisor is out on vacation this week and this morning we found out that her loyal deputy, who was to fill her stead, had a death in the family and would also be out all week. This left only one alternative. The most annoying and universally despised woman on earth would be pressed into service. This woman performed these duties for a time around the first of the year but there were so many complaints about her lack of interpersonal skills coupled with the reluctance of anyone to accord her any respect (especially since most are more knowledgeable and have more tenure), that those duties were eventually shuffled back to the supervisor.

The woman in question sneezes so loudly and exaggeratedly that dogs in Canada prick up their ears. This is Texas. She claims to have no control over the volume and duration of these sneezes but Im thinking that out of respect for those around her, she could at least try and muffle them some. She is decidedly rural and makes references to having been raised by a truck driver as if it were the hillbilly equivalent of having descended from the one of the families on the Mayflower. She talks much louder than is necessary to be heard and in fact, loud would probably be the single most apt adjective for her.

Thankfully, doing the reports that normally take our supervisor ten minutes to prepare, occupied her for most of the morning. Once that was out of the way and she returned to her desk drunk with perceived power, I knew stern measures would be called for.

This is a job for Loretta Lynn! (Me, in mock super-hero announcer guy voice)

I reached into my bag for Lorettas Country Music Hall of Fame CD, grabbed my headphones, and turned the volume way up. After hearing renditions of You Aint Woman Enough and Fist City (during which I really had to stifle the urge to sing along and loudly, at that) I knew that I would be able to continue, retaining a modicum of sanity.

Today's Lesson: Never underestimate the healing powers of the Coal Miners Daughter!
