January 11, 2005-5:25 a.m. Check out the latest addition to my Virgin of Guadalupe collection! The wonderful-beyond-words Beth and Bob gave me the large statue for Christmas.
My director at work came by and asked my coworker and myself what our best Christmas gift was. Stupid Sa proceeds to tell her about the cool woodcarving of the Virgin of Guadalupe that I got from Beth and Bob. Director and coworker both stare at Sa as though she said she got a fossilized dog turd. Sa: "Virgin of Guadalupe? Patron Saint of Mexico? They always show her with these points of light around her? You might have seen her image in white on the rear glass of vehicles driven by Mexicans?" Director and coworker: Blank stares I even went so far as to pull up the image of the gift from the store's website. Director (incredulously): "THAT'S your best gift?" Needless to say, Sa felt the need to educate and brought them the story of the Virgin of Guadalupe (which you can find here). They both dutifully read the story but I doubt it served any purpose other than to confirm their suspicions that I am desperately weird. That's right!
