THE EYRE AFFAIR
by Jasper Fforde

I loved this book!

We follow SpecOps LiteraTec officer Thursday Next in her pursuit of arch villain Acheron Hades. The book takes place in 1985, not the 1985 that we remember but an alternate version where people travel by dirigible and computers havent been invented yet but time travel is possible.

Thursdays uncle has invented a device, which allows one to enter a work of fictionthe Prose Portal. As he is testing this device by sending his wife into a Wordsworth poem, Hades arrives and kidnaps him, holding the wife hostage in the poem and stealing the machine.

Hades steals the original manuscript of JANE EYRE and kidnaps Jane using the Prose Portal. Because it is the original manuscript and Jane has been removed from it, she disappears from every copy of the book.

It is Thursdays task to stop Hades and return Jane to the book. Along the way she runs into opposition by the huge omnipotent Goliath Corporation and has a number of close calls.

The book is fast-paced, escapist reading.
