June 23, 2004-6:00 a.m.

Yesterday morning on the way to work it was really raining a lot so traffic was pretty thick.

Add to that a train that decided to park on the tracks crossing my main thoroughfare and we got a monster of a commute.

The train finally left the intersection and I finally get up to the tracks and the lights are all blinking red. Evidently, one of the arms didn't go back up on the intersecting street so the lights didn't go back to normal.

Suddenly, a woman in formal business attire and heels runs up to the gate and is trying to lift it up. She struggles with the gate and is then joined by another equally batty and formally attired woman who is helping her lift the gate.

They get the gate lifted all of the way and then it starts to fall back down so they catch it and again try to lift it to the upright position.

I don't know what happened from there--it was my turn to go--but I had to wonder what the heck was going through the admittedly tiny brains these women possessed.

Did they think they could lift the gate and it would lock into the upright position and everyone could go? How did they expect to get their vehicles through the gate while they're standing there like a couple of spokesmodels of stupidity?
